We split an area of our soybeans down the middle and plowed one side and drilled the other directly. The conditions are absolutely identical; variety, sowing strength and date. The staircase was identical. At present, the plow version looks much better.

Our sugarbeet sowing is in full swing. We adhere to the old principle, seedbed before seed time. This process lays the foundation for a successful sugarbeet harvest later in the year. However, the announced night frosts make us tremble.

Last fall, we took a large-scale look at single-grain canola. Machine was a Kuhn Planter with 45 cm row spacing. Unlike broad seeding, which distributes seed evenly over the area, precision seeding allows more precise control over plant spacing and promotes uniform plant development.
We initially drilled 40 grains/sq m, but then increased to 45 grains/sq m. That was certainly a mistake. The stand is now too dense.

On well-supplied soils, we are threshing over 20 t/ha this year. We hope to average more than 16 t/ha. The decisive factor is the choice of variety in order to achieve the best possible yields and qualities. Through careful variety selection, growers can ensure they are growing the optimal corn crop for their specific location and requirements, sometimes resulting in shockingly large yield differences.

The ground temperature is only just right at first. We hope that temperatures will continue to rise over the next few days to avoid exposing the corn to cold stress during germination. Nevertheless, we take the risk due to the existing soil moisture. A soil that is too wet can lead to compaction and poor rooting. Ideally, the soil should be moist enough to support optimal germination and root development, but not too wet to avoid drainage problems.

The renewed onset of winter with temperatures as low as -8 degrees at night give us the last chance to avoid having to work the area that was uncultivated before winter in the spring. On our heavy soils, a basic spring tillage is devastating to soil structure.

The alternating frosts have given the soil a soil rigidity and thus ideal conditions for gyration.

Despite the low temperatures, our canola in Romania is growing satisfactorily.

Our winter oilseed rape is presenting itself satisfactorily. We decided at short notice to sow at the end of September in view of the rains announced for the first week of October.
Actually, this appointment is too late. Drilled were 55 plants/m2 of the varieties Shrek from Rapool, Expression and Extime from Monsanto and Invigor 1165 from BASF.
As a row spacing we have chosen 12.5 cm.
